Four Questions That Decide It
Most award programs should not be in solid silver. Here is how to tell quickly whether yours should.
Send the occasion, the quantity, the date and the budget per piece. You get a straight answer, including whether silver is the wrong choice here.
The four questions
If the answer to any of these is no, crystal or acrylic is very likely the better buy — and the money is better spent on the event.
- Is the quantity small? Roughly single figures to low double figures per year.
- Is the occasion genuinely significant to the recipient, not routine?
- Will the recipient keep it in view for years rather than shelve it?
- Does the budget per piece support a real weight of metal?
What silver actually buys you
Intrinsic worth on the day it is given, a hallmark anybody can verify, and an object that will still exist in fifty years. That is what you are paying the difference for.
What it does not buy you is a better photograph on stage — crystal wins there — or a lower unit price at volume, because the metal is a real cost that does not scale away.
If the answer is no
Then buy crystal, spend the difference on the event, and do not feel that you compromised. A well-chosen crystal award given at a memorable event beats a silver one given badly, every time.
We will tell you this on the phone. It costs us the order and it is the reason clients come back with the program where silver genuinely is the right answer.
FAQ
Common questions
- What quantity is too many?
- It depends on budget per piece. Send both numbers and we will be straight with you.
- Will you really talk us out of it?
- Yes. A program that will not survive its second year is bad for both of us.
- What if only the top tier should be silver?
- That is usually the right structure. Silver at the top, something else below it.
- Is crystal a compromise?
- No. For volume programs it is genuinely the better buy.
